Whether you are looking for new ideas for weekend waffles or pancakes or just craving something sweet on top of your yogurt or vanilla ice cream, we have got the sauce for you! Blueberry compote is beautifully sweet and rich yet balanced with acidity with the addition of lemon juice.
Need-to-Know
What is Compote?
Compote is a sauce derived from whole fruit that is softly boiled in water with sweetener. The fruit will breakdown and become macerated until it develops a thick saucy consistency. Allow it to cool before serving; otherwise, the yogurt will become liquid when topped with the compote.
Use Fresh, not Frozen Berries
We recommend using fresh, not frozen blueberries because the flavors are much more pronounced, and you cannot get the same sweetness from a frozen berry.Â
Additionally, the fresh berries will naturally reduce and create a thick consistency without thickeners. In contrast, the frozen alternatives have far too much water in them to create that thick saucy consistency.
